SOWING THE SEEDS OF SUCCESS THROUGH GRASSROOTS SOLUTIONS

The Hani Saliba Foundation Agricultural Centre (HSFAC) was created to do more than just help agricultural growers and producers with their everyday needs. The Centre’s aim is to address the roots of this oft-ignored sector and help create a system that would provide farmers the means for a sustainable source of livelihood through a wider social network, shared assets and resources, improved market access and stronger bargaining power.

To achieve this goal, the HSF Agricultural Centre plans on focusing on three stages of development:

This stage includes finding ways to help increase crop output and gain higher returns on production by raising quality standards, attaining international certifications, learning and adopting strict procedures and policies that will make the products of HSFAC members become more competitive in the international markets.

This support system also includes facilitating logistical assistance to the sellers by providing them the means to travel and attend international trade fairs, expanding their contact network and organizing events that would help them improve their business.

By organizing and putting together a comprehensive database for farmers, HSFAC will have access to vital information that includes planting schedules, supply volume, production timetables, and product inventory, among others. With this information on hand, HSFAC may then be able to provide wholesalers with a steady source of available produce and crops that is both efficient and reliable.

This data may also be used to coordinate with wholesalers and help structure strategic plans for the effective management of supplies for eventualities like:

How much can be consumed locally and how much can be exported
Alternative options in case there is an oversupply of a particular product
Unstable market demand and/or price fluctuations
